Authoritarian, pro-regime party. Sole legal party of Equatorial Guinea since its inception on October 11, 1987, until the legalization of a handful of opposition parties in 1991.
Party was founded by nation's current dictator, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, who took over the country from his uncle in 1979 by military coup then executed him [Partido Democrático de Guinea Ecuatorial (PDGE)].
