Description | Center-right party originally launched as a vehicle for supporters of Georgia's first president, Zviad Gamsakhurdia, called the "Union of National Forces - Conservatives" ("ეროვნულ ძალთა გაერთიანება - კონსერვატორები"). Party transformed into a "Bloc" consisting of itself and two parties, the United National Movement and the Republican Party, ahead of local elections in Tbilisi held on June 2, 2002. The Bloc, newly enhanced with additional parties ahead of national elections held on March 28, 2004, and calling itself the "National Movement-Democrats" ("ნაციონალური მოძრაობა-დემოკრატების"), took 66.2% of the vote that year. Upon Russia's victory in the August 2008 Russo-Georgian war, party lent itself to Bidzina Ivanishvili's pro-Russia Georgia Dream Alliance in 2012, calling it "Georgia Dream-Conservatives ("ქართული ოცნება-კონსერვატორები"), which picked up six seats in Parliament. Party broke off in November 2019 and subsequently lost all its seats. Party turned sharply nationalist, focusing on the protection of the ethnic Georgian identity, the Georgian Orthodox Church and the Georgian language. Party was founded and is led by former MP Zviad Dzidziguri [Sak’art’velos konservatiuli partia (SKP); საქართველოს კონსერვატიული პარტია]. |
