Center-right nationalist party. After joining the the Coalition for Unity and Democracy (CUD or 'Kinijit'), the party left it in 2019, feeling more at home with the Ethiopian Citizens for Social Justice coalition, which it joined on May 2019. The AEUP began as an armed militia known as the All Amhara People's Organization (AAPO) and was targeted as a terrorist organization.
The AEUP joined forces on March 7, 2020 with the Balderas for True Democracy Party, chaired by Eskinder Nega, who was jailed for ten years and also controversially targeted for terrorism. The AEUP is chaired by Mamushet Amare.
