Description | Far left, 'Developmental' Marxist (adhering to a historical economic order which follows a Marxist pattern) coalition of parties also known for its support of 'Christian Socialist' values. Coalition began as a union of the Communist, Socialist and Christian Democrat parties, which strove to break the stranglehold of the two dominant parties, the Colorado and the National, and succeeded in 2004 with Tabaré Vázquez as president and in 2009 with the election of José Mujica.
