Description | Liberal, social democratic party forced into exile until 1993, then allowed to operate under an umbrella of opposition parties called the the Opposition Platform (POC), which wound up a prison of a kind, concentrating all 'opposition' parties into one powerless, tameable unit.
The disintegration of the POC in 1996 forced UDENA to stand on its own and it decided to abandon its opposition and accomodate the Obiang regime.
Since the 2000s, UDENA joined in coalition with Obiang's ruling Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea (PDGE) in legislative elections, submerging itself within the regime's wide umbrella and, in effect, obliterating itself as a viable political party.
UDENA is led by Pedro-Cristino Bueriberi Bokesa [Unión Democrática Nacional de Guinea Ecuatorial (UDENA)]. |
