Sunni Islamic, Muslim-minority interests party launched as Hizbullah (Party of God), changing its name in 1992. Party was founded and is led by Cehl Meeah (né Fakeemeeah). Meeah's alleged direction of a terrorist militia known as the "Death Squad," which murdered three opposition candidates and four people in Paris, brought about his arrest in December 2000. Party considers itself a successor to the Comite Action Musulman (CAM), headed by Abdul Razakh Mohammed, and remains the only Muslim party in Mauritius [Front Solidarité Mauricien; aka, Front de solidarité mauricien (FSM)].
