DescriptionOrthodox Islamic, Pashtun/Tajik Iranian ethnic group-dominant political party begun as an armed group known as the Islamic Union for the Liberation of Afghanistan, which was part of the 'Peshawar Seven', a coalition of mujahedin forces fighting Soviet forces in Afghanistan in the 1980s.

Militia was re-organized as a political party in 2005 by militia leader Abdul Rasul Sayyaf and given the name Islamic Dawah Organisation of Afghanistan (Tanzim-e Dahwat-e Islami-ye Afghanistan). Party is strongest in the Paghman area of Afghanistan and holds four seats in the House of the People. Party or movement is commonly referenced as "Ittehad."
