| Description | Ruling party identified with, and created as a political vehicle for, Madagascar's President since January 18, 2019, Andry Rajoelina. Party is a successor to Together with President Andry Rajoelina (Miaraka Amin'i Prezidà Andry Rajoelina, MAPAR), which was rebranded on July 18, 2019. During the period when Rajoelina was President of the Transition from March 21, 2009 to January 25, 2014, MAPAR achieved majority in parliament after elections held in December 2013. It grew to absolute majority after parliamentary elections held on May 27, 2019, when the party took 84 out of 151 National Assembly seats, and 18 out of 20 Senate seats. Party incorporates the center-left Young Malagasy Determined party (Tanora Gasy Vonona, TGV), which Rajoelina organized when he first made a name for himself when running in the Antananarivo mayoral election in 2007. TGV also wound up Rajoelina's nickname, a reference to the French high-speed train TGV and Rajoelina's high-speed rise to prominence [Isika Rehetra Miaraka amin’i Andry Rajoelina (IRD, also IRK and IRMAR); Nous tous, ensemble avec Andry Rajoelina]. |
