Description | Center-right, Islamist party split from the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q). Party was launched by former PML-Q senior vice-president and 38th Minister of Interior under PM Imran Khan, Shaikh Rasheed Ahmad, partly as an escape during a period of enhanced terrorism threats in Rawalpindi. Ahmad felt Pakistan needed a new party to "better translate the vision" of Pakistan's founder, Mohammed Ali Jinnah (aka, Quaid-i-Azam or 'Great Leader') into reality. Party leaders, particularly Ahmad, have faced assassination attempts since the party's creation. Party holds one seat in the National Assembly (عوامی مسلم لیگ پاکستان). |
