Left-wing, Rodriguan-separatist party founded by Catholic priest and former Rodrigues Island Chief Commissioner, Serge Clair. Clair led efforts to bring about autonomy to Rodrigues, the smallest of the islands within the archipelago of Mascareignes, on November 21, 2001. The OPR is one of two Mauritian-Creole parties on the island that also compete for seats in mainland Mauritius, the other being the Rodriguan Movement (MR), which is more inclined to maintain the island's union with the mainland [Organisation du Peuple Rodriguais (OPR)].
