Description | Coalition of six right-of-center parties supporting the candidacy of Martin Madidi Fayulu. Coalition was launched ahead of legislative and presidential elections held on December 30, 2018. Coalition was led by Fayulu's Commitment to Citizenship and Development (ECiDé) and included the Liberation Movement of Congo (MLC), the Unified Lumumbist Party (PALU), the Social Movement for Renewal (MSR), Opposition Dynamics (DO) and Our Congo (CNB). The Coalition simultaneously formed a presidium chaired by four of the coalition's leading luminaries, Martin Fayulu, Jean Peier Bemba of the Congo Liberation Movement, Moses Katumbi of the Together for the Republic, and Adolphe Muzito of the Unified Lumumbist Party. The winner of the election in 2018, President Félix Tshisekedi, toyed with the idea of supporting Fayulu then opted out at the last minute. The Lamuka Coalition came in second place, both in the presidential and assembly elections (picking up 112 seats), and ahead of Joseph Kabila's hand-picked successor, Emmanuel Ramazani Shadary, and his coalition. The Lamuka Coalition currently holds 40 seats in the National Assembly. Party leader (called "Coordinator") is Moses Katumbi, leader of the new Together for the Republic party [Lamuka means 'wake up' in Lingala [Peuple Congolais Lamuka (PCL)]. |
