Left-wing Catalan-nationalist alliance of the Republican Left of Catalonia (ERC) and the Sovereigntists (Sobiranistes). Alliance supports Catalonia's independence and separation from Spain. Alliance was formed ahead of the April 28, 2019 Spanish general election. Alliance was joined in July 2019 by the United and Alternative Left (EUiA). Alliance President is Oriol Junqueras Vies. Alliance formed a new party on June 8, 2023 called "Esquerres per la independencia" (Left for Independence; Independentzia Ezkerretik in Basque) in coalition with the Basque-nationalist Euskal Herria Bildu (EH Bildu), a first of its kind inter-ethnic union between two left-wing nationalist, separatist forces. Union will compete for seats in Senate elections being held on July 23, 2023. The Republican Left of Catalonia–Sovereigntists currently holds 11 out of 23 Catalan seats in the Spanish Senate [Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya–Sobiranistes (ERC–Sobiranistes)]
