DescriptionConservative, pro-free market party and Sweden's second-largest (aka, The Moderate Coalition Party; Moderata samlingspartiet, MSP). Party was launched as the General Electoral League (Allmänna valmansförbundet) in 1904 by MP Gustaf Fredrik Östberg. Party adopted the name Moderate or The Moderate Party in 1969, replacing the Right Party used from 1952. The Moderates reached their highest peak to date after parliamentary elections held on September 19, 2010 with just over 30% of the vote, and 19.84% after elections held on September 9, 2018. Party supports strengthening the private market through measures such as reduced taxes, privatizations and deregulation. Party has been led by Ulf Kristersson since October 1, 2017 [Moderaterna (M)].
