Description | Islamist party led by former President of the Comoros (May 26, 2006 to May 26, 2011) Ahmed Abdallah Mohamed Sambi (nicknamed the 'Ayatollah').
Sambi led the Comoros to controversially ally itself with Muammar Ghadafi of Libya, Omar al Baqir of Sudan and other authoritarian regimes in the Middle East. Sambi has been under house arrest since May 19, 2018. His Juwa Party is the second largest in the Assembly, at 7 [Parti Juwa (PJ)] and considers itself the leading opposition party to the regime of Azali Assoumani, President of the Comoros since May 26, 2016. Juwa means 'Sun'. |
