Description | Moderate Islamist opposition party launched at first as the "Popular Petition" party by Al Mustakillah TV channel owner Hechmi Hamdi. Hamdi controversially used his channel to promote his party, and picked up 26 seats in the Tunisian Constituent Assembly in 2011. Hambi then changed the party name on May 2013 to the "Aridha movement" or Tayar al-Mahaba [Current of Love]. Hamdi's connections to Tunisia's ousted president Ben Ali worked against his party in subsequent elections. Party collapsed to a one-seat mandate after elections held on October 6, 2019 [تيار المحبة; Tayyār al-Maḥabba; Courant de l'amour]. |
