Description | Center-right party supportive of municipalism and decentralized government. Party withstood annual threats of cancellation by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal for various internal organizational reasons and faced disintegration in 2023 until wealthy businessman Carlos Pineda affiliated himself with it in 2023, using it as his launching pad for the presidency of Guatemala that year. Pineda was in turn announced as the party's presidential candidate on February 5, 2023. Pineda experienced a sharp rise in opinion polls and reached first place until he was disqualified on disputable grounds on May 9, 2023. As a consequence, the party was blocked from participating in legislative elections held on June 25, 2023. Since the party did not participate in the 2023 elections (through no fault of its own), it was dissolved by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal effective January 8, 2024. Party was led by Lilian García Contreras [Prosperidad Ciudadana (PC)]. |
