Description | Coalition of seven left-of-center parties split from the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC). After the death of MDC founder and former President Morgan Tsvangirai on February 14, 2018, the MDC Alliance chose Nelson Chamisa, the leader the MDC Tsvangirai since February 7, 2018, as its Presidential candidate ahead of general elections planned for July 2018. Alliance broke up and dissolved on September 15, 2018 but the MDC Alliance name was 'borrowed' on August 29, 2021 ahead of by-elections in 2021 and came under the leadership of Douglas Mwonzora. Chamisa had departed the Alliance the same day to later form the Citizens Coalition for Change in January 2022. |
