Description | Militant, Shia Islamic alliance of parties linked closely to Iran.
The Fatah Alliance (or 'Conquest' alliance) is led by Hadi al-Amiri and commands the Iran-backed Hashd, which is the 150,000-person strong 'Popular Mobilization Forces' consisting of 40 mostly Shia Muslim militias.
The alliance features Al-Amiri's violent Badr Organisation, the Kata'ib Hezbollah, the Kata'ib al-Imam Ali and the Al-Sadiqoun Bloc (the political wing of Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq, AAH).
Al-Amiri was instrumental (with the Sairoon Bloc's Muqtada al-Sadr) in selecting Abdul Mahdi as prime minister and continues to back the government. |
