Far-left Marxist revolutionary army turned political party after the signing of the Peace Accords with the Government of Juan Manuel Santos in 2016. The FARC acronym previously stood for "Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia." A more innocuous name of "Common Alternative Revolutionary Force," maintaining the acronym FARC, was agreed to on August 31, 2017 (the name 'Nuevas Colombia' was considered). As of January 24, 2021, the FARC was officially made defunct and renamed Comunes (or Common Party), in effect, a clean slate to avoid associations with the FARC's guerrilla past. The number of Comunes representatives to the Congreso de Colombia was mandated to a guaranteed five. Party leader is Rodrigo Londoño.
