DescriptionCenter-left opposition party founded by former members of the ruling Rwandan Patriotic Front. Party was not recognized by the Rwandan government and its leaders and members were harassed (some to exile) by the police, and threatened anonymously with death. Its vice-president, André Kagwa Rwisereka, was found beheaded in July 2010. Pressure from international human rights groups forced the Kagame government to grant the Green Party status as a registered party in 2013, and allow its members to run in elections. Party managed to pick up two seats after legislative elections held in 2018. Party has been led by 2017 presidential candidate and party co-founder Frank Habineza [Parti vert démocratique du Rwanda (PVDR)] .
