Description | Socialist party and one of Peru's oldest launched originally in Mexico with pan-Latin American aspirations on May 7, 1924 by Peruvian philosopher Víctor Raúl Haya de la Torre. Party is better known as the Peruvian Aprista Party or Star Party but obligingly acronymizes and adds its registered name Alianza Popular Revolucionaria Americana (APRA) on its literature and logos. APRA lost its status as a viable political party on September 9, 2021 as a consequence of stagnancy, non-participation and non-representation in legislatures [Link] Party was ranked 14th in popular support after legislative elections held in 2020 with 2.7% of the vote. Party has been led by César Trelles Lara since October 27, 2019. |
