Description | Socialist party formed by union of the Estonian Left Party and the Constitutional Party in 2008. Party emerged from the Communist Party of Estonia (ECB) formed in June 6, 1991, itself a renamed version of the Communist (Bolshevik) Party of Estonia (EK(b)P) established in 1920, and banned on August 23, 1991, after Estonian independence was restored on August 20, 1991. Upon its 're-emergence' in 2008, party has come to defend Russian minority interests in Estonia at the insistence of Constitutional Party leader, and honorary chairman, the long-time mayor of Maardu Georgi Bõstrov (died on October 15, 2015). Party is led by Igor Rosenfeld. Party has been unable to regain its footing since its heyday, and effectively collapsed after general elections held on March 3, 2019, obtaining 510 votes (0.1% of the electorate) [Eestimaa Ühendatud Vasakpartei (EÜVP)]. |
