Description | Center-right nativist party operating primarily in the Romandy (Swiss-French) region of Switzerland. Party began as a Geneva-municipalist "suisse romand" movement called the Mouvement blochérien genevois founded by ecologist Georges Letellier, with a focus on civic clean-up and "defending Geneva residents in the face of crime, over-competition due to globalization and the phenomenon of Euro-border workers, the bureaucratic excess of the State and the mismanagement of our taxes." The movement picked up nine seats in the Geneva Grand Council in its first year of operation, which grew to 11 after elections held on April 15, 2018. Party took a shot at expanding its appeal to the rest of Romandy, especially its four cantonal pillars, the Genevan Republic, Jura, Neuchâtel and Vaud, and has participated in Swiss federal elections since 2011. Party president has been journalist François Baertschi since May 2022 [Mouvement Citoyens Genevois (MCG)]. |
