Description | Marxist-Leninist party led by 2021 Presidential candidate and Recoleta Mayor Daniel Jadue. Party began as the Socialist Workers' Party (Partido Socialista Obrero) founded by typographer worker Luis Emilio Recabarren on June 4, 2012, changing its name to the Communist Party of Chile; Partido Comunista de Chile (PCCh) on January 2, 1922. Party found representation and power through various 'popular front' governments established in Chile, especially the 'Popular Unity' government (1969-1973) led by Salvador Allende, until the coup begun on September 11, 1973, during which time the Communist Party was banned.
