DescriptionConservative nationalist party founded by Guatemala's 32nd President and family patriarch, Álvaro Arzú. Party took the largest number of seats in legislative elections held in 1995-96 which also saw Arzú winning the presidency that year. Party witnessed a severe decline in its electoral results starting in 2003, after Arzú departed to form the Unionist party and co-leader Óscar Berger departed to lead the Grand National Alliance (GANA), and subsequently win the presidency that year. Party chose Álvaro Arzú's son, Roberto Arzú, as its presidential candidate in 2019. After Roberto broke away to form the Podemos party, PAN chose Manuel Conde Orellana as its leader in 2023. Party was forced to dissolve by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal on January 8, 2024, joining 10 other political parties that did not reach a minimum number of votes in the June 25, 2023 General Elections [Partido de Avanzada Nacional (PAN)].
