DescriptionCenter-right party founded by Singapore's longest-serving opposition MP, Chiam See Tong, who led the party from 1980 to 1993. At its height, the SDP was able to pick up 3 seats in the Singapore Parliament (in 1993).

Since Chiam's resignation in 1993, the SDP has collapsed nationally to zero representation in all constituencies under the leadership of Chee Soon Juan, and has fallen into minor party status, obtaining the support of less than 4% of Singapore's registered voters in the last election (2015).
