|Description||Left-of-center opposition party launched by former Worker's Party leader J. B. Jeyaretnam in 2007. |
Jeyaretnam's sudden death in 2008 brought the party close to dissolution until Jeyaretnam's son, Kenneth Jeyaretnam, took control in late 2009.
The younger Jeyaretnam signaled a change in the party platform by calling for the privatization of judged-to-be-corrupt Government-linked Companies (GLCs). The party also grew in appeal when Jeyaretnam encouraged unions in their battle to prevent corporations from using cheaper foreign labor to undermine union power.
