DescriptionSocialist, pan-Africanist party founded by Uganda's 2nd President (April 15, 1966 – July 27, 1985), Milton Obote. Party held sway for many years until Obote's overthrow by forces led by Yoweri Museveni in 1987.

Obote continued to lead the party until his death in October 10, 2005.

Party has been led since July 2, 2015 by Obote's son Jimmy Micheal Akena (Congress ya Watu wa Uganda).
