DescriptionCenter-right party founded by former "Galanistas" (acolytes of Liberal Party Senator and oft-time presidential candidate Luis Carlos Galán, assassinated on August 18, 1989) who split from the Colombian Liberal Party. Party was convulsed beginning in 2008 by allegations that certain of its MPs and party leaders were linked to drug trafficking organizations, a controversy which spurred an outflow of members who later formed the U Party in September 2009, and forced its leader at the time, Colombia's 10th vice president, Germán Vargas Lleras, to resign. Party was able to recover by 2018, picking up 46 seats in the Senate and Chamber of Deputies that year, becoming the nation's second-largest political force. Party fell to 16 seats in the House and 11 seats in the Senate after elections held on March 13, 2022. Party has been led by Germán Córdoba since July 31, 2018 [Partido Cambio Radical (PCR)].
