Social Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan

|Description||Center-left ruling party of Kyrgyzstan. Party was founded by technocrats, engineers and a region administrators. |
Party immediately took on the role of opposition and remained so for almost 2 decades and was active in the Revolutions of 2005 and 2010.
Mass leadership departures over the years left one man standing, Almazbek Atambaev, who later became the president of Kyrgyzstan from 2011 to 2017.
Atambaev was succeeded by the SDPK's Sooronbay Jeenbekov. Both presidents had a falling out in 2019, splitting the SDPK in half after Atambaev departed, taking with him a large number of disaffected members.
Party re-registered on April 2019 and chose as their leader Sagynbek Abdrakhmanov.
Party is now commonly known as “Abdrakhmanov’s SDPK” (versus “Atambaev’s SDPK”, dubbed illegal with its leader jailed).
Expectations are that the party is unlikely to survive the October 2020 legislative elections and is close to dissolving itself.
