Description | Center-left, secularist and social-democratic party formed under the leadership of PM President Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto (executed on April 4, 1979). Party has been associated with members of the Bhutto family over the ensuing years, especially Bhutto's daughter Benazir (assassinated on December 27, 2007), who led the party as PM in 1988–1990 and 1993–1996. Party has been co-chaired since December 30, 2007 by Benazir Bhutto's husband, Asif Ali Zardari, Pakistan's 11th President, and by their son, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Party is most predominant in its home province of Sindh, where it holds 99 seats in the 168-seat Sindh Assembly [پاکستان پیپلز پارٹی]. |
