Description | Center-right party and exponent of the liberal ecology movement, which is a movement of conservative parties supporting a more modified climate change awareness. Party is known for its opposition to the anti-capitalist stands of the left-of-center Swiss Ecologist Party (The Greens). Party was launched by Martin Bäumle, who had been president of the Zurich chapter of The Greens since 1998, breaking off in 2004 with a number of members over what they felt was the Greens' slide to non-environmentalist left-wing politics. Party began small and cantonal, participating in municipal elections in Zurich starting in 2006, then expanded nationally, entering 14 cantonal parliaments by 2018. Party took 16 out of 200 National Council seats after Swiss Federal elections held on October 20, 2019.
