Description | Center-right, pro-free enterprise party launched in 1998 by eighteen politicians opposed to the rule of General Sani Abacha. Party is one of two which dominate political life in Nigeria, along with its main rival, the All Progressives Congress. Upon the collapse of Abacha's regime, the party's candidate, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, took over as president on May 29, 1999, and the party held on to government until President Goodluck Jonathan's last day on May 29, 2015. The party has been chaired by businessman Prince Uche Secondus since December 10, 2017. |
