| Description | Coalition of left-wing Ecuadorian parties founded by former President Rafael Correa in 2006. Lenín Moreno (president of Ecuador from May 24, 2017 to May 24, 2021) became PAIS president on May 1, 2017 (resigning on February 27, 2021) and was PAIS' nominee for President of the Republic in 2017 and the Vice Presidency in the 2006 and 2009 elections.
Alliance, once dominant in the Ecuadorian parliament for 10 years, lost all of its seats after elections held on February 7, 2021. PAIS is an acronym for "Proud and Sovereign Homeland" and also means 'country'[PAIS Alliance Movement; Movimiento Alianza PAIS (Patria Altiva I Soberana)]. |
