DescriptionThe Courage Party was the name of some state affiliates of George Wallace's campaign in 1968. When his party divided in the 1970s, state affiliates mostly changed their names to reflect the new entities (AIP, American Party, etc.), and the Courage Party ceased to exist. It was used in New York because state laws prohibited the word "American" from appearing as a party label on a ballot.
