Республиканская партия России Respublikanskaya partiya Rossii
The Republican Party of Russia began as a moderate, social-democratic alternative to the Communist Party in early Russia. While never a major player in Russian politics, it has had major liberal names such as Ella Pamfilova, Boris Fedorov, and Vladimir Ryzhkov amongst its membership over the years. Its longtime leader, Vladimir Lysenko, served three terms in the Duma before being defeated in 2003.
The RPRF was dissolved in 2007 by court order after they failed to prove sufficient membership to the Supreme Court. The party has since worked in conjunction with the Union of Right Forces, though there has not been an official merger.
Since 16 June 2012 the party was merged with People's Freedom and renamed.
