| Description | Center-right, Bavaria-nationalist party which seeks to establish a Free State of Bavaria (Freistaat Bayern) independent of Germany, along the lines of what came into force on September 15, 1919 after Ludwig III signed the Anif declaration creating an 'independent' republic of Bavaria, which lasted until 1949. Party calls itself a successor to the Catholic Bavarian People's Party (Bayerische Volkspartei, BVP), which was forcibly dissolved on July 5, 1933 by the Nazi regime. Party's stronghold is in Upper Bavaria, which includes Munich, where it has held seats in the City Council of Munich. Party is chaired by Florian Weber [Bayernpartei (BP)]. |
