Description | Center-right party founded by Edward Binyah Kesselly, one of the few cabinet ministers to survive the mass-execution of allies of Liberia's 20th President William R. Tolbert, Jr. after his overthrow in April 12, 1980. Party chose as its standard-bearer in 1997 Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, who became Liberia's 24th President. Party's current standard-bearer is Sirleaf's former Vice President and Liberia Senate leader, Joseph Boakai. Party is chaired by Luther Tarpeh and holds 13 of 30 seats in the Senate and 11 out of 73 seats in the House. |
