Party launched by MPs who had initially supported the candidacy of two-time CAR president, David Dacko. Dacko ran in the August 1993 presidential elections hoping for a comeback as an independent, but came in third. The MDD was formed after legislative elections in December 1993 to benefit any future Dacko candidacy until Dacko died in 2003. Party leaders profess to lead in his name and promote his vision of 'centralafricanization', expanding the public sector with intense public works.
