Commonly called the "Commonwealth party" for their strong advocacy of keeping Puerto Rico as a commonwealth and not a state

The party is the state version of the Democrats. Their logo is the image of a "jibaro", which is the Puerto Rican term for the field worker and common man, which they represent.

The Populares are traditionally the majority party but as of the 2008 elections have had little electoral success.
