Center-left umbrella movement formed by opponents of Mali's President Moussa Traoré (1979 – March 26, 1991). Traoré was overthrown by his personal bodyguard Gen. Amadou Toumani Touré, to whom ADEMA provided open support. ADEMA subsequently witnessed a short-lived dominance of the nation, holding preeminence in the National Assembly and the presidency under Alpha Oumar Konaré (June 8, 1992 - June 8, 2002) until support began to evaporate beginning in 2002. Party is led by Mali's Minister of Mines Tiémoko Sangaré [Alliance pour la Démocratie au Mali – Parti Pan-Africain pour la Liberté, la Solidarité et la Justice (ADEMA-PASJ)].
