Description | Center-left, social-democratic party and Norway's largest. Party entered government for the first time in 1927, and held power uninterrupted from 1935 to 1965, and for a majority of years until 1997. Party began as the far left Det norske Arbeiderparti (DNA) [United Norwegian Labor Party], one of just a handful of Socialist parties emerging in Europe, and joined the Communist International (Comintern) in 1919. The party steadily moved rightward since the 80s. Though its performance after Storting elections held on September 13, 2021 was the worst it saw since 2001, the party succeeded in forming a minority government together with the Center Party on October 8, 2021. Party has been led since June 14, 2014 by Norway's Prime Minister since October 14, 2021, Jonas Gahr Støre [Arbeiderpartiet, A or Ap]. |
