|Description||The U.S. Taxpayers Party was formed in 1992 to provide a line on the ballot for Pat Buchanan. When he decided not to run, the party's organizer, Howard Phillips, became the nominee. Phillips wanted to collect the various right-wing parties into one national coalition (American, American Independent, Independent American, Constitution, Tisch Independent Citizens, Concerned Citizens, etc.). |
At the party's 1999 National Convention, it voted to change its name to the Constitution Party.
