Description | Successor to the Welfare Party banned on January 16 1998. Party was relaunched by Fatih Erbakan, the son of the late Necmettin Erbakan who formed the original Welfare Party on July 19, 1983. Party advances the Millî Görüş, the religious-political movement begun by Necmettin Erbakan, and has strong Islamist overtones. Party also calls for breaking the relationship with Israel, transforming what it considers Turkey's chaotic parliamentary system, and building a stronger presidential system modeled on that in the United States. Erbakan held a launch rally on November 17, 2019 which wound up the largest in Turkish political history with the participation of 45,000 people [Yeniden Refah Partisi (YRP)]. |
