Description | Marxist-Leninist successor and heir of the Communist Party of Moldova, which dissolved on August 23, 1991 after the fall of the Soviet Union. Party held supermajorities in Parliament until elections held on July 29, 2009, then collapsed to zero representation after elections held on February 29, 2019. Out of desperation, the party sounded out union with the Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM), and on May 13, 2021, the Electoral Bloc of Communists and Socialists (or BECS) was created. Party has been chaired since 1994 by Moldova's 3rd president (April 5, 2009 to February 24, 2019) Vladimir Voronin, who also leads BECS [Partidul Comuniștilor din Republica Moldova (PCRM); Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova]. |
