| Description | Center-right farmers' rights party begun as a social media platform called #BoerBurgerTweet formed by agricultural journalist Caroline van der Plas to protest measures to limit nitrogen emissions, called the 'Nitrogen Crisis of October 1, 2019'. Crisis arose when 18,000 construction and infrastructure projects were halted for unspecified environmental reasons, resulting in 27,000 jobs lost. Movement expanded to assist farmers and horticulturists burdened or threatened by regulations and the involvement of the state. Party emerged as the nation's largest after provincial elections held on March 15, 2023, winning the popular vote in every single Dutch province, and becoming the largest party in the Dutch Senate on May 30, 2023.
