Description | Monarchist, pro Buganda independence, Protestant party thought to be a successor to a monarchist movement known as Kabaka Yekka (King Only), which was cannily absorbed bit by bit by former President Milton Obote until it was wiped out entirely by 1964, the monarchy subsequently dissolved.
The Conservative party was launched in 1980 by Mayanja Nkangi, an attorney who managed to re-instate the Kingdom of Buganda and the King, the Kabaka, in 1993.
The CP chose 1966 as the year it was established (coincidently, the year the Kabaka Yekka dissolved into nothingness).
Party considers itself an enemy of the anti-monarchist, Catholic, anti-Buganda independence Democratic Party (DP).
The CP finds its base among the Ganda people who live in Buganda.
Party is led by attorney, Ken Lukyamuzi. |
