Description | PHOENIX - Verification checks of random samples of Republican gubernatorial candidate Don Goldwater's qualifying contributions for public campaign funding came up short, requiring a check of all contributions collected by the campaign, a state elections official said Friday.
Enough counties had submitted results by late Friday to indicate that Goldwater's samples were passing the checks at a rate of between 90 percent and 110 percent of the required threshold, triggering the full check, Deputy Secretary of State Kevin Tyne said.
That would deny Goldwater the expected $453,849 in public funding for his campaign for another two weeks at a time when early voting for the Sept. 12 primary election has already started. |
