DescriptionST. LOUIS–(KMOX)–Ed Martin is back — running for Congress in 2012 in the newly-created Missouri 2nd Congressional District. The Republican attorney ran a tight race and lost last fall against incumbent Democrat Russ Carnahan in Missouri’s 3rd Congressional District. Now he’s hoping for a Carnahan rematch, as the 3rd district is being carved up and absorbed by surrounding districts. “I think the good thing about Russ Carnahan running is that he is the embodiment of what’s wrong with Washington,” Martin said, “He got trounced and barely held on.” Martin is hoping the new 2nd district will be more Republican-friendly than the old 3rd district he lost. “The last one was around 57 percent Democrat,” Martin said, “It was Gephardt’s old district. This new district is going to be closer to 54 percent Republican.” Carnahan has not declared his candidacy yet. Neither have any Republicans other than Martin. The Missouri GOP’s former state party chair Ann Wagner and State Senator Jane Cunningham are sniffing out the race.
