Texas early voting starts; Dallas County headed for record turnout

Voters flocked to polling sites across Texas this morning, in a busy start to early voting.
From Houston to Lubbock, officials are projecting record participation, prompting authorities to add polling stations, haul in extra equipment and add workers. Across Texas, early voting started at 8 a.m., and polls will be open until 5 p.m.
In Dallas County, voting was on pace to set a record for the first day.
By just after 11:30 a.m., more than 13,000 votes had been cast in the county. On the first day of early voting in 2004, 20,566 votes were cast -- the current county record.
Dallas County elections administrator Bruce Sherbet said it appears the county will surpass that number today.
“It’s definitely started off with a bang,” he said. |
